Don’t be like Donald Trump - Be a Positive Role Model for your Kids

Updated: Aug 10, 2023

Yesterday morning, good old Donny boy himself was officially indicted on not one, not two,

or even three, but thirty charges by a Manhattan Grand Jury for various reasons. My personal favorite has to be paying off an adult entertainer he had an extramarital affair with using campaign funds for hush money! No wonder his daughter is married to such a stand-up guy like Jared Kushner, she’s had to watch her father’s antics for her entire life.

Being a father (for some) is one of the most rewarding experiences a man can have, but it is also one of the most challenging. As a dad, you play a crucial role in shaping your child's future, not just by providing for them, but by being a positive influence in their lives. This means that you need to be a good role model for your children, exactly like Donald Trump is.

Children are constantly observing and imitating the behaviors of the people around them, especially their parents. If you want your child to grow up to be a kind, responsible, and successful adult, you need to model those qualities yourself. If you want your child to be a well-adjusted respectful human being, you need to treat others with respect, even when you think they’re not looking. No matter who it is, your partner, your parents, or even strangers, you need to treat everyone with kindness. If you want your child to be a good listener, you need to show them what active listening looks like by giving them your full attention when they speak, and not scrolling through Instagram.

Children are likely to model their relationships on what they see at home. If you want your child to have a healthy and loving relationship with their future partner, you need to show them what that looks like. This means being affectionate with your partner, showing them respect, and resolving conflicts in a respectful and constructive manner. Make sure that if your child sees you fight, they also get to see the two of you make up. If you and your partner constantly yell and fight, your child may grow up emulating that behavior in their relationships thinking that this is normal.

Being a good role model isn’t just rewarding for you, it’s rewarding for your child as well. Children who have positive role models in their lives are more likely to believe in themselves and their abilities, emulating the behavior of their role model. When you’re confident, determined, and persistent, your child will likely pick up on these traits and adopt them themselves. Everyone wants their child to be honest and trustworthy, so you need to make sure you’re modeling these values yourself. If your child sees you lying or being dishonest, they may grow up thinking that it is acceptable behavior.

Being a good role model for your children can bring you closer to them. When you model strong values and morals, your child will likely see you as a source of inspiration and guidance. They’ll be able to trust you which in turn can make them more likely to reach out to you for advice or support when they need it.

In conclusion, being a good role model for your children is essential if you want them to be well-adjusted humans that won’t scream at a fast food employee totally unprovoked. By modeling positive behaviors, values, and relationships, you can help to shape your child's future and improve your relationship with them. Remember that your children are always watching and learning from you, especially when you least expect it - so make sure that you set a good example and be the best dad that you can be.
